Our Board
Emma is a 4th-year Mathematics of Computation and Statistics student with a longstanding interest in Effective Altruism, which began in high school. Since then, she has facilitated dozens of events and fellowships, including cross-club socials and retreats. In 2024, Emma co-organized EAGx Berkeley, and chairs AI Safety at UCLA. Her interests include artificial intelligence, and improving global health.
Matthew is a 4th-year Mathematics of Computation student focussed on AI governance, politics, moral uncertainty, applied rationality, and effective rhetoric. An organizer for EA at UCLA, AI Safety at UCLA, and AIRES at UCLA Matthew excels at community building and is planning a career in AI policy. In his free time, he enjoys following politics, working out, and watching Lakers games.
Juliette is a fourth-year studying Psychology with a Program in Computing (PIC) specialization. She was drawn to effective altruism because of animal welfare, pandemic preparedness and the desire to shape a better future for all. In her spare time, she loves to play beach volleyball, train for marathons, and learn other languages.
Will is a 3rd-year undergraduate studying Philosophy and Middle Eastern Studies. A seasoned debate coach and former intern for Colorado Senator Michael Bennet, he enjoys the intersection of ethics and global security. His interests span nuclear and space security, as well as animal welfare. Will’s engagement with Effective Altruism began through the exploration of moral philosophy, which continues to shape his academic and professional pursuits. He enjoys tabletop RPGs, cinema, and the Denver Nuggets.
William Zhou is a 4th-year student studying CS at UCLA. He's an AI Safety and interpretability enthusiast. Last summer, he wrote GPU kernels at AMD and previously worked on Singular Learning Theory (SLT) at Timaeus. His interests include global utility maximization and drinking hot chocolate.
